How to Play Five Card Stud
An older game of poker, Five playing card Stud, is not well-liked with the majority of those playing poker today (at casinos as well as at internet poker rooms), the game of Seven card Stud being a lot more common variety of stud poker.

- All those playing ante up prior to the cards being dealt (table restrictions control the size of the ante required).
- All competitors are given two cards, one card face down (the ‘hole’ playing card) and one playing card face up.
- Beginning with the player displaying the highest value card a round of wagering takes place.
- All participants are dealt one more playing card, face up.
- Another round of wagering follows.
- Each player receives a further playing card, face up.
- Additional wagering follows, but for this round the minimum wager has been doubled.
- The last playing card is given to all participants (face up).
- The final wagers are executed.
Following the concluding wagering round the remaining participants show their completed hand, with the most recent player to raise showing their hands first. The person exhibiting the winning poker hand wins the pot.
Betting Note: Five Card Stud will be different from Texas Hold’em and Omaha Poker for the reason that the participant holding the best ranking face up hand bets first for that round. The betting then continues clockwise around the table, however the initial bettor for each round can vary because the best cards showing moves around the table.
