How to Play Omaha Hi

Omaha like Texas Hold’em starts off with two participants placing “blinds” into the pot ahead of any cards being dealt (the expression blind refers to the fact that no player has viewed any cards at this time).  The players directly to the left of the dealer pay the blinds, the player next to the dealers left forking over the small blind and the person two positions to the left of the dealer forking over the big blind.

A further card is placed face up and joins the rest of the three common cards in the middle of the poker table this playing card is referred to as “the turn” or else “fourth street”.  After this a new round of betting follows.

The next card is added to the four existing face up community cards, this card is called “the river” or from time to time “fifth street”.  As soon as this card is dealt the final round of wagering occurs.

Those participants left at the poker table next show their hands starting with the last person to bet.  When building their last hand a participant must use two of her or his four hole playing cards and three of the five community playing cards from the middle of the table, no other combination is allowed.  When playing Omaha Hi, the highest set of cards takes the pot..

The starting (hole) cards first dealt to players are important to you if you would like to be successful at Omaha Hi, the absolute best opening set of cards would contain two Aces a Queen and a King (double suited).  Other excellent beginning hands for winning Omaha playing would contain: two pairs (better if they are high value pairs), any four-card connectors, 10 Jack Queen King and Suited Aces.
