How to Play Seven Card Stud

Currently the most popular poker game is Texas Hold’em, but there is a different poker game that you may want to try should you wish for a take a break from playing Texas Hold’em; the game of Seven Card Stud is well-liked amongst internet players and has a following at poker clubs too.  There are no community playing cards in Seven Card Stud rather each player receives their personal set of seven playing cards.  Your hand of seven playing cards consists of three playing cards that you alone know the value of (these are dealt face down) and four cards that everyone at the table can see the value of (they are dealt face up).

This is how you play Seven Card Stud:

  • When playing Seven Card Stud each player pays a specified amount before receiving their first set of three playing cards.
  • After all have anted up all players get the first three of their seven cards. Players are dealt the first two cards face down so that you are the only one who is aware of their value. The players then get their third card (referred to as the door card) dealt face up.
  • The door card determines who begins the wagering, the player in possession of the lowest value door card starts.
  • The forth card dealt to all of the participants is next dealt, face-up.
  • Another round of wagering occurs.
  • All players then receive another face-up card.
  • The customary round of wagering takes place.
  • A further card is dealt to all players, face-up.
  • Another round of betting occurs.
  • The last card, number seven, is given to every player face-down.  All players now have all seven of their cards, three are secret and four are public.
  • The last round of betting finishes the hand.

Whenever the last betting round is concluded the winning participant is the individual having the best five card set of cards.

The Wagering Rounds

While betting in Seven Card Stud the same four choices are possible to you as are possible when you are playing any other type of poker:

- Fold – You lay down hands which you no longer want to spend time and/or money in playing.
- Check – When there are no prior raises to call, a participant can opt to check and see the next card without betting any more money.
- Call – When a bet is placed, whatever the amount, a participant must call this precise quantity before they can see another card.
- Raise – When players wish to put extra money in the pot, a player will raise the size of the bet placed.

Betting only ends when all of the players except one lay their hands down, or whenever every person calls or checks to the same quantity.  After that the following event in the order above happens.

When playing Seven Card Stud, distinct from a number of other poker games, the participant exhibiting the highest value card will be the first to wager. Subsequent to the initial bet the competitors carry on wagering in a clockwise direction. What this means is a different player may bet initially at each wagering round in a single hand!
